A Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a formal organization composed of parents, teachers and staff that is intended to facilitate parental participation in a school. Responsibilities include electing parent members to serve on the School Leadership Team, conducting outreach to get other parents involved in school life, and supporting school activities like parent-teacher conferences, open houses and curriculum nights. The PTA develops its own bylaws, elects officers and holds regular meetings.

Dear LAMS Parents and Guardians,

 

Welcome back to all returning families, and a big welcome to all new families.

 

The LAMS Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is an essential part of our LAMS family. When families are involved and participate in school activities, children do much better in school. We ask every parent in our LAMS community to join us in continuing the tradition of a strong and active PTA membership. Although there are fewer ways to be involved this year, we hope you will let us know of any ideas you have about how the PTA can support families and our school.

A great way to be involved is by attending the monthly scheduled PTA meetings so that you can be informed of LAMS goals, activities, and concerns as well as share your ideas. Our meetings are usually held on the third Wednesday of the month at 5:30 pm.

Contributing to the LAMS PTA with your tax-deductible donations and participating in fundraising events will allow us to support the school even while some students are 100% remote and others are participating in blended learning.

In past years, PTA donations have helped support activities and clubs such as Robotics, Green Team, School Play, Science Programs, Arista, African American Show, Spring Art Show, Jewelry Club, and so many other teams and activities. We hope to start next year strong so that when these opportunities are available again, we can support them however we can. The PTA funds are only used to benefit our students at LAMS. You can also join our private Facebook group, LAMS Family Schoolyard at https://www.facebook.com/groups/LAMSPTA. It's a great place for those of us in the LAMS community to share information, ask questions, etc. to learn about what is going on in and around the school. Please answer the membership questions--we need this to confirm that you are a LAMS parent/guardian as the group is for LAMS family members (and school staff and teachers) only.
