Arts and Literacy Afterschool Program
Information this Fall, 2020
Dear IS 227 Louis Armstrong Families,
I hope you are all safe and healthy as you begin this unique school year.
Since going virtual in March of this year, we have been providing online art classes for IS 227 students, continuing to engage them all in forms of Arts Education through our unique model and pedagogy. We successfully continued those efforts with a 6-week virtual Summer Camp and now look forward to providing the students with an after-school program just as unique as this year. This year the program is once again funded through the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD).
Our team at the Arts and Literacy have been working very hard putting together this year's after school programming which, like the regular school day, will be a hybrid model. We will start the program on September 29th, fully virtual to ensure that students get used to their regular school day schedules. Classes will begin shortly after dismissal and will continue until 5:15pm. These classes will be held online through Zoom and will be co-taught by our Teaching Artists.
Once we are given the green light, we will then move the program to a hybrid model. We will offer the classes in real life in designated classrooms Monday through Friday. Students who are designated to attend school on those days are the only students allowed to attend after school programming. However, we will create Zoom links that will allow students learning virtually to sign into the class, and continue their work alongside those students who are there with the teacher. This allows students to be fully engaged in after school programming 5 days a week.

I look forward to seeing you all in our Arts and Literacy classes.
