    Dear Parents:

As the new Principal of Louis Armstrong Middle School, it is my sincere pleasure and honor to serve as a member of this great school community.  Louis Armstrong has a rich history of academic and cultural excellence.  This is a result of the strong collaborations and partnerships between administrators, teachers, parents and community based organizations that provide a diversity of experiences for your children.   Along with the staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of academic and cultural excellence established at Louis Armstrong Middle School.

I am no stranger to Louis Armstrong.  For the past three years, I have served as their Network Instructional Specialist for Mathematics and as a Leadership Coach.  I was fortunate to have a desk in the front office as my satellite office. I was there almost daily and was embraced by the Louis Armstrong family.  I have developed relationships with many of the teachers, administrators and support staff.  I became a part of their learning communities and echo the same core beliefs about how children learn best.  As a community of learners, we have envisioned bringing together culturally diverse children to help them grow academically, emotionally, physically and socially.  This is ensured through rigorous and challenging academic programs and clubs geared towards, social, emotional and physical well-being.

I am excited to continue being a part of the Louis Armstrong learning community in a new role. In my role as principal, I plan to use my background and build on my relationships that I already have with the staff here. I come to you with over 22 years of pedagogical experience, including over seven years of educational administration.  I have always been passionate about the middle school years.

It is my hope to continue to foster and build upon the highest quality of instruction through collaboration with the school leadership team, parent teacher association, staff and students.  It is essential to our success to continue to strengthen the educational practices that best supports students in reaching their goals and beyond by building on the school wide goals and structures that are already working and in place.

I am looking forward to collaborating with you to discuss the identified areas of success and needs of our students and families. I believe in an open door policy where parents, students and staff are always welcome to come by and discuss their concerns and suggestions.  I look forward to meeting each of you.

    Sincerely,

    Helen Ponella

    Principal
